Neal Ryan

Neal D. Ryan, MD

President and Chief Executive Officer

Neal D. Ryan, MD has a BS from MIT in computer science and electrical engineering and an MD from Yale. He is the Joaquim Puig-Antich Professor in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh and is an internationally recognized expert in the field of child and adolescent mood and anxiety disorders with over 200 publications in the field. Dr. Ryan is the Director of Education for the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh and the Director of the Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Ryan has served as a member of the Askesis board of directors for over 15 years.

Robert Teitt

Bob Teitt

Vice President of Technology and Business Development

Bob Teitt brings over 25 years of experience in health information technology to the position of Vice President of Technology and Business Development at Askesis Development Group. Bob focuses on forging strategic relationships to enhance Askesis' ability to offer software that leverages innovation, industry trends and research. He oversees all aspects of software development, quality assurance, systems integration, technical documentation, professional services and business development.

Bob’s current passion is working with the Askesis customer base to better engage patients and consumers in their treatment by offering innovative technology solutions.

Bob has been a part of the UPMC system for 22 years. Prior to joining Askesis, he served as the Director of Information Systems for two major divisions: Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, a national leader in providing research-based care and treatment of mental health and addictive disorders; and Community Care Behavioral Health Organization, a public-sector behavioral health managed care company. Prior to joining UPMC, he worked for the healthcare division of Andersen Consulting (now Accenture), involved in vendor selection and system implementation projects for community hospitals and large academic medical centers.

Bob holds a BS in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh.

James Giammarco

James Giammarco, CPA, MBA

Chief Financial Officer

James Giammarco has been with Community Care Behavioral Health Organization since its inception, and is now the CFO of Askesis. He oversees the financial performance of the organization as well as the Provider Reimbursement Department. He became a Certified Public Accountant in 1991 and earned an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh in 1994. He has extensive finance experience in managed care, including financial management at Health America. Prior to working at Health America, Mr. Giammarco was a senior financial analyst at UPMC and worked in the audit division at Arthur Andersen.

Nicholas Carosella

Nicholas Carosella, MD

Physician Advisor

Dr. Nicholas Carosella is an associate medical director for Community Care Behavioral Health Organization and a staff psychiatrist at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic. He serves as Askesis’ physician advisor, bringing 23 years of leadership experience within healthcare organizations in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Maryland.

Nick has participated in numerous research studies in the National Institutes of Health. He is a member of the American Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine, American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry, and the American Academy of Neurology. Nick's bibliography includes publications in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, review articles, and abstracts.

Nick earned his BA from Duke University and his MD from the Medical College of Virginia in 1983. He then completed a psychiatry residency at the University of California Los Angeles (1984-86), and a neurology residency at the Medical College of Virginia (1986-88). He is Board Certified in Psychiatry, Psychosomatic Medicine, and Geriatric Psychiatry.

Jeffrey Sivek

Jeff Sivek

Director of Product Management

Jeff Sivek joined Askesis as the director of product management in 2011, following more than 20 years of clinical, operational, and IT experience. In his current role, he leads the team that manages the product lifecycle. He ensures that all products improve clinical interactions at the point of care, and that product features increase compliance without creating vulnerability for customers.

Before his years at Askesis, Jeff worked in clinical operations as a clinician, HIPAA security liaison, applications developer, systems analyst and administrator at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic (WPIC). In these various capacities, and by working within all levels of the organization, he gained a rich understanding of the way information systems design needs to interact with and serve a broad range of interested parties. While at WPIC, he was part of the senior management team that developed and implemented a multi-tiered, independent, consumer-oriented mental health crisis intervention program utilizing emerging technologies to advance efficiency and efficacy of services.

Jeff earned an MEd from Slippery Rock University and an MSW from the University of Pittsburgh.

Julie Cook

Julie Cook

Director of Implementation

Julie Cook, the Director of Implementation, partners with clients to assess organizational workflows, requirements, and opportunities and then develops the strategy to integrate PsychConsult Provider for optimal clinical and financial operations.

Julie joined Askesis over 15 years ago as a business analyst, working directly with clients to define custom requests and implement PsychConsult Provider. She has also worked with Askesis personnel to drive product development and enhancements.

Prior to joining Askesis, Julie began her career in the audit practice for a large accounting firm where she honed her project management skills. Later she moved to the fast-paced start-up environment, where she gained operational experience and product development knowledge.

In her current role as the Director of Implementation, she contributes her in-depth product and industry knowledge to assist clients with successfully implementing PsychConsult Provider at their organization. Her strong financial background gives her a unique understanding of integrating financial systems and managing the operations of advanced billing and claims systems.

During her tenure with Askesis, Julie has traveled to client sites in several states, lending her experience and knowledge during the implementation process.

Julie holds a BS degree in Accounting from Illinois State University and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Margaret Rush

Director of Client Services and Support

As the Director of Client Services and Support, Margaret Rush manages daily client service interactions with customers. Her expertise combined with personal knowledge of the behavioral health care environment drive her commitment to providing excellent customer service, developing long-term partnerships with organizations, and working with clients to meet and exceed their goals.

Margaret focuses on "re-implementations" — that is, working with current Askesis clients to adopt the newest and most innovative Askesis solutions, and oversees customer support services, clinical implementations, and training.

Margaret has more than 30 years of information technology experience, and over 25 years within the UPMC system. She started her career in information technology as a research analyst in the Child Services division at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic (WPIC), Western Pennsylvania's largest psychiatric facility and UPMC's primary psychiatric facility. At WPIC, she worked to implement a clinical application developed in-house by the Information Services Division. When WPIC implemented PsychConsult Provider, impacting 2,000+ clinicians, Margaret played a key role in design and development.

In 2005, Margaret brought her knowledge and years of experience to Askesis when she was selected to develop implementation strategies for use when installing PsychConsult Provider at client sites and supporting and training clients. During her tenure at Askesis, Margaret's proven leadership and her commitment to customer support ensure development of long-standing partnerships with our clients.

Margaret holds a BS in Information Science and an MS in Health Information Systems, both from the University of Pittsburgh.

Michael Carberry

Director of Software Development

As the Director of Software Development, Michael Carberry manages the design, development, deployment, and ongoing support of Askesis products. Michael brings more than 15 years of IT experience to the organization.

Prior to joining Askesis, Michael worked his way up through the ranks of the Pittsburgh IT industry, starting as a developer and most recently serving in similar IT Manager/Director roles. Michael has extensive experience in the software development life cycle process, and has spoken at large national conferences to share his in-depth understanding of application performance and security.

Michael has a strong interest in new technologies such as mobile, and pays attention to the details of software implementations, including performance, usability, and industry compliance. He has always been interested in the benefits that Electronic Healthcare Records provide to organizations and patients from the perspectives of accessibility, data quality, and cost, which ultimately led him to Askesis.

Michael earned his undergraduate degrees from The Pennsylvania State University, and holds an MS in Health Management Information Systems from Duquesne University and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. Michael has explored his passion for international travel by visiting 17 countries. He’s also a former member of the Penn State crew team and currently an avid rower on Pittsburgh’s rivers.
